Our people are our greatest asset – I don’t believe you

By February 16, 2026 No Comments

I spent years in boardrooms hearing the same thing: “Our people are our greatest asset.”

Then I’d look around and think… so where’s the system for that?

We had systems for everything. CRMs for customers. ERPs for operations. Project management tools. Financial dashboards.

But when it came to actually recognising and valuing the humans doing the work? It was an afterthought. A pat on the back in a hallway. An annual award nobody remembered by March.

That gap bothered me.

Because culture isn’t a poster on the wall. It’s what happens between people every single day. And if we don’t have a way to capture that, encourage it, and make it visible, we’re leaving it to chance.

That’s why I built Brownie Points

Not because the world needed another piece of software. But because every organisation talks about people and culture, and almost none of them have a systemised way to actually do it.

More than 3 million recognitions later, I’ve seen what happens when you stop leaving culture to chance: engagement goes up, turnover goes down, and people actually want to come to work.

If your people strategy is still running on gut feel and good intentions, it might be time to ask: what are we actually measuring?
